Centre

The heart of the island encompasses some of the island’s most famous villages, including the cosmopolitan hub of Santa Gertrudis, the traditional streets of San Rafael and the small but charming San Lorenzo, and it incorporates a stretch of the famous ‘restaurant road.’

It’s the heart of the island, quite literally, and the inner villages and towns within Ibiza’s central radius are all buzzing with life, fusing tradition with modernity and surrounded by picturesque scenery from fruit orchards and farmlands to pine forests and lush mountains. By day, connect with nature, coffee-hop your way through the villages while by night, it’s a gastronomic hotspot… and just one or two famous nightclubs to frequent, should dancing be on your agenda!

Who you’ll meet

A true hotchpotch of Ibiza society, you’re as likely to meet a superstar DJ in the corner store as you will an Ibicenco farmer, family or up and coming business folk! The central villages are popular with expats and young families alike, while the famed ‘restaurant road’ attracts tourists and locals with discerning tastebuds.

When to visit

The beauty of the island’s inner villages is that the action is all year round. Those with a penchance for furry friends should check out the annual blessing of the animals in Santa Gertrudis (yes, really!) in October and if you’ve got little ones in tow, the Santa Gertrudis festival features a week long fair with rides, games and entertainment in November.

Must see

A little known monument in the island’s centre is Sagrat Cor de Jesús (The Sacred Heart of Jesus), perched high (23 metres high in fact!) on a hill in Montecristo like a miniature version of Christ the Redeemer – the views from the base are to die for. San Rafael is also home to Privilege, officially ‘the world’s biggest club’ according to the Guinness Book of World Records and Amnesia – not the biggest, but definitely one of the best.

Must do

Wining and dining in the heart of the island is one of Ibiza’s biggest allures. Pick your favourite restaurants and plan an eating-based itinerary for your holiday, or just take a drive and try your luck (though reservations are recommended in summer), you never know what amazing culinary discovery is around the next bend, literally.
