Swedish House Mafia Opening Party at Pacha: 22/06/09

Ibiza can be a bit of a jungle at times but let’s face it, I’m no Little Red Riding Hood and I’m certainly not afraid of any old Big Bad Wolf. So when I heard the theme for the Swedish House Mafia’s all-new Monday night residency at Pacha was The Dark Forest, I quickly donned my cloak, packed my basket and headed off to brave the beast.

The entrance to the forest was slightly less than ominous – think giant trees made completely of mirrored pieces and lined with fluoro green lights – but it was certainly more daunting than a trip to grandmama’s house…

Ibiza Rocks Opening Party: 16/06/09

Benvenidos a Ibiza rocks Hotel

So it’s 9pm Tuesday night and Miss W is frantically rifling through her wardrobe for her very best Kate-Moss-at-Glasto type ensemble, unable to locate favourite pair of sass+bide Bronze Rats leggings (seriously – did one of the cats eat them?) and not having enough time to nip down to The Virgen Market to snap up the emerald green jumpsuit I’ve had my eye on all weekend. This can only mean one thing – the Ibiza Rocks opening party is finally upon us and as always, a fashion crisis is the source of Miss W’s perennial tardiness.

We Love… Sundays at Space Opening Party: 14/06/09

Have you seen the latest billboards springing up all over town lately, with a quirky illustration depicting the famed landscape of Dalt Vila? Every time I drive past one I get a bit of a buzz just thinking about what it is they are advertising – the return of my all-time favourite Sunday clubbing extravaganza, We Love… Sundays at Space.

Opening at 4.30 means an early start for the normally-I’m-a-night-owl Miss W, but the chance to dance in the sun on the famous Space terrace is definitely worth the lack of beauty sleep. Besides, it’s also why Valentino designed their oversized visor shades, right? (more…)

Amante Beach Club Opening: 07/06/09

Amante, Amante, Amante. Are these the only words crossing people’s lips in Ibiza this weekend? Everywhere I go it’s the same: ‘Are you going to the Amante opening on Sunday? See you at Amante on Sunday? Amante is opening this Sunday isn’t it? Amante, Amante, Amante.’

So in case you’ve been living under a rock the size of Es Vedra, today marks the opening of Amante Beach Club & Restaurant, the all-new incarnation of what was previously known as Sol Den Serra, and perhaps THE most anticipated beach bar opening of the summer…

Pura Vida Hello Summer: 04/06/09

In case you hadn’t noticed by the amount of new people on the island, the number of sun-kissed faces on show and the g.l.o.r.i.o.u.s. weather we’ve been having of late, the calendar has well and truly flipped into June and summer. The good folk at Pura Vida have dutifully been checking the date, judging by the theme of today’s party – the very appropriately named Hello Summer!

In the late afternoon, the White-ettes arrived with Little Miss White in tow, all dressed up and ready to play in the new Kid’s Corner (that’s the little one mind you, not the White-ettes – though of course we made a fashionable effort too!) with White’s new Children’s editor, Christina Bosmans – who was co-hosting the event as part of the launch of kidsinibiza.com – and her trusty sidekick clown. A pretty impressive clown may we add, not just a wig and some floppy shoes! After a shaky start, Little Miss White eventually had her face painted and was bonding with the other littlies over lucky dips, meaning we could step out onto the terrace and enjoy the rest of the afternoon, leaving her in expert hands…

Aura Opening Party: 22/05/09

aura ibiza restaurant clubThe business of reading someone’s aura is definitely a little on the spooky side if you ask Miss W, however when it came to reading the mood at San Juan hotspot Aura tonight – officially throwing open its doors for the 2009 summer season – I think I could pretty much qualify as an expert (gypsy headscarf and silver bangles included!).

With a buzz in the air – not unlike the kind of buzz you feel in New York on a hot summer’s night – from the minute you walked through the door, there’s no doubt in my mind that the mood here was literally screaming P.A.R.T.Y.

Café Mambo Opening Party: 21/05/09

cafe mambo

Another day, another sunset – isn’t that just one of the best things about living in Ibiza? While I’m well aware the sun has been setting in exactly this place for an eternity, today saw the crowds converge upon iconic sunset institution Café Mambo, on San Antonio’s sunset strip, to celebrate 15 years of sunset worship in this very spot. Yes kids, the day of Café Mambo’s official 2009 opening party had arrived.

Delano Opening Party: 17/05/09

Did someone say a beach bar was opening in Playa den Bossa today? It certainly is the flavour of the month and today marked the official opening of new kid on the block Delano (which is actually more like the grown up next-door neighbour) of the infamous Bora Bora.

With super-cool (and popular from the word go) oversized sunbeds that need a ladder to climb up and recline, plus plenty of sand space boasting individual beds, rows of tables under a shaded awning and a super slick bar indoors, Miss W and the White-ettes were instantly enamoured of the venue and its all white décor.

Sands Beach Restaurant opening party: 09/05/09

There’s a certain island character who’s been keeping himself uber-busy this winter – despite the fact he was busy and bouncy beforehand – and that’s the eternally optimistic, always smiling and forever friendly entrepreneur extraordinaire Jason Bull, of the iconic Base Bar and Es Vive fame. With two new ventures in the pipeline for 2009, in conjunction with some high-profile partners, we’ve been looking forward to the unveiling of his latest projects for some time – and today marked the opening of numero uno, Sands Beach Restaurant in Playa den Bossa.

Savannah Opening Party with Sebastian Ingrosso: 30/04/09

Living on an island that offers perhaps THE most famous sunset in the world does not mean you ever take it for granted. No sireeeee, definitely not. In fact, island residents and locals alike are more than proud (and sometimes fiercely protective) of the fact the sun sets in our west each and every night of the year and we have an entire strip of amazing bars dedicated to the fact just to show it off to its full potential.

Of course, in winter, the sunset strip shuts up shop well and truly – San Antonio becomes slightly desolate and ghost town like as the sun curves to the right, just out of view of the bars and a chilly wind takes over the paseo, rather than the flip-flopped feet of tourists in the sunnier months. All the better for us we say, winking at each other safe in the knowledge we know all the other secret spots to watch sunset from in winter. And all the more reason to throw a party when the bars reopen – and tonight, it was Savannah‘s time to shine.
