That’s the question I keep hearing out and about in Ibiza lately, provoked by the consistently amazing sunny weather, constant stream of visitors and plethora of parties to attend! Not that we’re complaining of course (in fact, we’re loving every minute), it’s just that, well, aren’t we supposed to get some downtime at Christmas in Ibiza?
Not this year! We’ve had mince pies and mulled wine aplenty, as the expat community brings its festive traditions to the island – whether it’s a shopping event, dinner party or disco (we are in Ibiza after all)! And speaking of parties… they just haven’t stopped! From Cadenza Vagabundos and Defected in the House at Pacha to a super cool sunset-meets-full-moon-rising soiree on Cala Conte, I’ve seen more Ibiza locals out and about in the last month than I did all summer!
Now, it’s time to start planning the Christmas festivities and we really are spoilt for choice (see our Things To Do Blog for full details of the island’s best parties, events and happenings, including Christmas Day). Despite my hankering for a white Christmas, I’ll be pretty happy spending the day on the beach with my buddies… and more than happy to relinquish the cooking and cleaning to one of my favourite Ibiza restaurants!
So it seems downtime can wait just a little longer… Isn’t that what January is for?
THE LOWDOWN
THE GOOD: I’m loving the variety of things to do this winter in Ibiza… just when I thought it might have gotten boring, the island’s latest influx of winter newcomers present a host of new events. From cooking classes (M Wellness and Nagai) and cool Spanish conversational classes (thanks Nagai!) to secret warehouse parties (I’m afraid I can’t share my sources on that one!), salsa parties (Mumak and Sandy’s) and mince pies and mulled wine galore, it’s almost made me forget my longing for summer!
THE BAD: I must admit I am feeling just a little envious of big city shopping right about now… our quaint Christmas market is a novelty, but it definitely doesn’t have the razzle dazzle of London or New York – or the convenience of being able to find the perfect last minute gifts on every corner!
THE GOSSIP: With all this festive eating and drinking to be done, we suspect there will be quite a few kilos piled on Ibiza’s residents (and I count myself in that collective of course!) in December – thank goodness for New Year’s resolutions… embarking on detox programs come January 2 is probably going to be number one on this isle. Post DC10 of course!
