White Ibiza Summer Launch Party review

From a behind-the-scenes perspective, Miss W has got to say, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. to all the Ibiza event planners out there. Because in the lead up to White Ibiza’s Summer Launch Party at Agroturismo Atzaró last week – in a flurry of invitation lists, DJ set times, casting calls, catering menus and goodie bags – I couldn’t believe just how much work (and stress!) goes in to putting on a big-scale event!

Because usually I just turn up on the night and enjoy them!

From an on-the-scene perspective however, Miss W would like to high-five everyone involved in throwing the party because – after an hour of hair, make-up, styling and pre-party nervous jitters – I loved every single minute of the entire event! Which went a little something like this:

Starting at the very civilised hour of 6pm, DJ Andy Baxter – who also ever-so-kindly mixed our amazing summer compilation CD exclusively for guests at the event – kicked off the proceedings with a laidback, chilled out musical vibe perfectly befitting the beautiful surroundings of the venue. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, Kitt Proudfoot was winning a legion of pint-sized fans at the Kids Disco, expertly run by Kids In Ibiza while mums and dads were perusing the pop-up boutiques and make-up bar for retail therapy.

[At this stage Miss W was gulping chilled cava to calm her nerves as the Smack Makeup Ibiza girls did their best to beautify me. You have to admit, when it’s your party, you’re always a bit nervous that no one will come!]

Next up was an acoustic performance from Rat on the Roof, and as the sun began to sink down over the hills, we wandered down to the Bubble Bar as the beautiful Balearic sounds of acoustic guitar creating the perfect pre-sunset ambience as our guests settled in to the plush white day beds and mingled around the catwalk snacking on sushi or sizzling barbeque bites.

[Right about now, Miss W was scoffing both because she’d forgotten to eat all day… though I prefer to think of it as quality control!]

The it was over to Hed Kandi residents Ben Santiago (behind the decks) and Lovely Laura (on sax), for an eclectic set that picked up the pace perfectly, setting the mood for the upcoming fashion show presented by Atzaro and featuring the 2011 Michiko Koshino collection, plus new faces from Deva Models. Rather than me wax lyrical about how gorgeous the clothes were and how I want EVERYTHING, you can check it out here, in an amazing shoot styled by Midnight Sun‘s Maya Claughton.

[Miss W, resplendent if I do say so myself, in a truly amazing Le Paradis Collection floor-length kaftan and the highest ever vintage 1970s wedges did her very best model impersonation, strutting down the catwalk immediately after the show was over. Did anyone notice? I think not.]

Kitt Proudfoot returned for round two, this time accompanied by Strictly Rhythm vocalist Duane Harden who belted out a selection of tunes including his massive hit ‘U Don’t Know Me’ on the catwalk. Then it was over to newcomer Mia Lucci, who was a huge hit with her modern disco vibes, creating an impromptu dance floor by the bar before Yolanda Be Cool stepped up to the plate for their Latin-infused closing set.

[Completely satisfied with the turnout and thrilled with all the performances, Miss W returned to her room (well, I would never drink and drive now would I?) and wondered how she’d ever write a review of the party given that for the first time EVER, she hadn’t been taking notes or photos with her trusty iPhone. Can anyone help fill in the gaps?]

THE LOWDOWN

THE GOOD: What’s not to love about being pampered before your own party? The super talented Smack Makeup Ibiza girls turned my sleep-deprived, lacklustre skin into a glowing complexion and transformed my boring hair into a Rapunzel like cascade of curls… If only I could have them on call for every party I go to!

THE BAD: When the clock struck 12, we had to call it a night… it’s not that the White-ettes were going to have a Cinderella moment or anything, it’s just that we were having such a good time we didn’t want the night to finish! Luckily, Aura was just around the corner…

THE GOSSIP: The next event presented by White Ibiza is already in the pipeline so watch this space! Diaries at the ready? Wednesday June 29 at Supperclub Novum Ibiza
