While most of the world’s stylistas were buzzing post-NYC and pre-London Fashion Week, Ibiza’s fashionistas were (as usual) buzzing around in their own unique fashion bubble, a place where it wasn’t so much about trends, key pieces, collections or who was sitting in the front row – rather, it was all about an event that could have potentially put the forthcoming Christie’s auction of Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s bling to shame.

Oh – and in case you weren’t in the bubble last weekend, I’m talking, of course, about the Pure Form ‘Art in Motion’ show at El Hotel on Saturday night!

Check the AMAZE cocktail ring on the wooden hand! Engagement perhaps?

Gold, silver, diamonds, pearls, semi-precious stones, precious stones, opals, shimmering seashells, feather adornments, silk beads, chunky chains, delicate threads, intricate hand-woven creations, statement pieces, antiques and future heirlooms were all on display, in a multitude of pop-up boutiques with a luxe black carpet down the middle, surrounded by spotlights, hinting at the catwalk spectacular that was to follow…

Before the show began, I perused each of the boutiques and definitely found a favourite within each one (hint hint, I really loved the giant crystal cocktail rings, JOY Jewellery long beaded necklaces offset with peacock feathers, teensy tiny peace symbol rings by Ana Ostrum among SO MANY OTHER SPRAKLY PRETTY THINGS!) and just when I thought it might be time to call my beloved boyfriend and insist he ‘pop in’ for a drink, the lights went down and the music went up… cue the models… aaaand ACTION!

Love the teensy tiny little peace sign rings... and the rest!

Draped in gold, silver and lavender knitted silk dresses by Elkke ranging from sassy and short to elegant full length –their metallic finishes serving to complement the jewellery perfectly – each of the models was sporting a gliterrific striking eye look courtesy of Smack Ibiza, plus tribal braids by hair stylist Louisa Mason Cooper. (After the show I made a point of asking Corina from Smack just how she got their lips so luminescent… the answer? Real GLITTER, surprise, surprise. Not sure how user friendly that would be when sipping one’s morning coffee however).

After the show, the pop-up boutiques swiftly became a hive of activity – there’s nothing like seeing someone actually wearing something to inspire serious cases of jewel envy! The show was dubbed ‘Art in Motion’ and at the end of it I have to say I totally agreed… Who needs Fashion Week when we have so many talented and unique designers on our doorstep right here in Ibiza?

JOY Jewellery - I'm totally loving the peacock feather pieces (and also the bling-tastic print by Noam Ofir in the background!)

THE LOWDOWN

THE GOOD: The show’s soundtrack had me almost as enthralled as the jewellery – from Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend (Nicole Kidman’s Moulin Rouge version thankyouverymuch) to Spandau Ballet’s Gold, each song was themed to fit the parade… a testament to the attention to detail of this entire production! Bravo!

THE BAD: The large group of gentlemen (and let me just say, I am using that term very loosely) who not-so-subtly made their exit from the bar mid-way through the show. Sure, I get it, it’s a pretty girly affair… but come on guys, you could have at least used the garden gate rather than rushing down the side of the catwalk. Or in the very least stuck around for another ten minutes to check out the super sexy models!

THE GOSSIP: Quite a few Ibiza jewelers (or their in-house spies) were spotted in the audience… were they eyeing up the competition, supporting their peers or perhaps pitching for a spot in 2012’s Pure Form collective? Only time will tell…

In lieu of canapes, beautiful shell creations were served up on a plate!
