It was a hot and steamy summer night, there was a full moon rising, we were on Las Salinas beach, surrounded by chic and stylish Ibiza peeps… I mean really, what more could you ask for? Well actually, a Pravda vodka cocktail bar, an exclusive fashion show by Ibiza boutique Paul & Fred, live music from Rat on the Roof and singer Jude La Joia and a sumptuous feast from the five-star kitchen of Guarana Salinas Beach Club.
Ask and you shall receive… at the first ever Full Moon Dinner presented by White Ibiza!
Of course, since Miss W and the White-ettes had the honour of hosting the event, we arrived early enough to enjoy the view as the sunset turned the Salinas sky a dusky hue and the glowing full moon rose above the clouds and sea, as Warren Cahill from Rat on the Roof provided the acoustic Balearic soundtrack. Oh – and of course in time to greet our lovely guests while enjoying the view (both the sky, AND the boy-tastic eye candy)!
After cocktails on the deck, we sat down at the (appropriately) white-clad tables to chilled bottles of Can Rich rosé and an interesting combination of starters – a super-scrumptious gazpacho of strawberries, tempura asparagus in brie foam and satay chicken sticks – while a gaggle of gorgeous girls flitted about before dashing to the makeshift ‘backstage’ area. A-ha! The models for the evening’s fashion show had arrived, which was Miss W’s cue to politely leave the table and ‘supervise/style’ the preparations…
The tireless girls from Smack Makeup Ibiza, Corina and Sara (still buzzing from the previous evening’s Michiko Koshino production at Blue Marlin, as were most of the models) created ‘70s inspired looks, with glittering multi-coloured eyelids, Farrah Fawcett flicks and long, lustrous curls, befitting the array of animal prints, cocktail frocks and big furry handbags ready to be strutted in the show, courtesy of cool new Ibiza boutique Paul & Fred.
Just as the guests finished their main meals – succulent sea bass or decadent filet steak topped with foie – the parade began, a stream of Jenny Packham, Amor & Psyche, Manuel Luciano and Single LA dresses that wouldn’t be out of place on the red carpet (including one frock that has already been promised to Eva Longoria and another A-MAZING bejeweled jumpsuit as seen on Rihanna, I kid you not!) or in the Pacha VIP later that evening (and was conveniently available in the pop-up boutique for those who felt so inspired).
Afterwards, as Johnny La Plage played some laidback beachy beats, the lovely (and gorgeous!) Jude La Joia warmed up her vocal chords and treated us to an amazing vocal performance, culminating in a cover of Miss W’s fave ever house track, Kings of Tomorrow’s ‘Finally’.
Of course, no one ever wants a full moon party to end, so when the show was over, we moved to the deck – aka, the Pravda vodka cocktail bar – and lingered as long as the accommodating Guarana staff would allow. But I’m not going to tell you what time THAT was!
THE LOWDOWN
THE GOOD: The afternoon’s ominous clouds clearing up just in time for the moon rising over the Mediterranean Sea. Talk about timing… and what an amazing sight!
THE BAD: Poor little Miss W was so busy in a flurry of Swarovski crystals, feathers, models and spotlights she missed her main meal… but then again, if you were hanging out backstage with a bunch of half naked skinny girls, you wouldn’t really be that inspired to eat now, would you?
THE GOSSIP: Well, it was a full moon and you had to expect something to go haywire – in our case it was the DJ equipment, which just up and decided to fizzle out right at the moment the very first model was about to step onto the makeshift catwalk. Doh! However, this being Ibiza, there are always DJs aplenty floating about and it was Mia Lucci to the rescue, with a ‘here’s one I prepared earlier’ disco demo mix CD that was perfect for the Studio 54 vibe of the clothes and was easily streamed through the restaurant’s sound system. Hey presto!
