White aisle fashion fever

Style blog - The Royal Wedding

Weddings are indeed in fashion in 2011, thanks to the impending nuptials of those royal you-know-whos and judging by the amount of excitement in the fashion world over just who will design the royal gown, it seems wedding fashion is also a pretty hot topic.

Designers are clamoring to dress the bride-to-be and although the chosen designer is yet-to-be-revealed (official royal protocol decrees no details are to be released until the big day), they will almost certainly be British. Vivienne Westwood, who designed Carrie Bradshaw‘s dress in the Sex and the City movie and whose collections are available at reVOLVER, would be an inspired choice; odds are currently on Bruce Oldfield, who designed Princess Diana’s wedding couture, and slightly more modern, and dare-we-say fashionable names such as Matthew Williamson and the relatively unknown wedding gown designer Phillipa Lepley are also rumoured to be contenders.

The big question for me though, is not who the designer will be, but what style said frock takes shape! Will it be meringue-esque, like Lady Di’s or more sleek and elegant, befitting of a modern-day (or at least, post-1980s) princess? I think (and certainly hope!) the latter because whatever the style, it will undoubtedly inspire many new trends this summer, for weddings, parties and beyond!

Brides aside for a moment, everybody loves getting frocked up for a wedding… especially those ones where a beautiful ceremony turns into a full-scale party – you can be sure there are plenty of those in Ibiza over summer! Ibiza is a hot wedding destination in 2011 – it’s not just the locals getting hitched, couples from all over the world flock to our fair shores to say ‘I do’. The guests are usually pretty pleased too – I bet the acceptance rate is a lot higher than for most weddings abroad and the fashion stakes are a lot more bold, colourful and daring than your traditional backyard wedding too!

Back to the wedding of the year – with apologies to anyone else getting hitched in 2011, but it is only one any government has declared a public holiday for – Wills and Kate wasted no time in setting their date for Saturday 29 April 2011 and deciding on Westminster Abbey as a venue, but the next question has got to be where will the royal stag and hen parties be held? Could it be… Ibiza is calling?

The loved-up couple holidayed here back in 2006, in the early stages of their relationship. Pacha would be the perfect venue – in fact White Ibiza’s very own Miss W tells me William and Kate graced the VIP area on their Ibiza holiday. And she would know – she was officially invited to sip champagne and dance at their table! As Pacha is the only club open in April it’s the only option too… but does resident DJ Andy Baxter have anything in his record box Queen Elizabeth might dance to?

All shall be revealed on the Big Day
(99 days away and counting!) and I’ll be watching (with a hangover probably, given the KM5 opening party is usually that weekend on the Friday night!), along with the rest of the world’s fashion police and if Wills and Kate don’t have the hen or stag night here in Ibiza, well, there’s always the honeymoon!
