So all of a sudden we’ve reached the end of May (where did the time go?) and our thoughts are turning to the opening parties – and particularly the grande dame of them all, Space. It’s the daytime outdoor car park arena that makes the Space Opening so special (Ibiza authorities, please take note!), so in our books, equally as important as what to wear to the event is which A-list sunglasses to accessorise with. An essential ingredient for an afternoon of dancing beneath the bright blue sky, and as the sun is rising so early at this time of year you’ll also be grateful for them at the other end of the proceedings too. You can guarantee the White-ettes will be dancing until the end…
Options are aplenty (and let’s face it, Ibiza is hardly short of eyewear stores) covering everything from Ray Ban and Gucci to Tom Ford and Chanel. Cool shades to be sure, but the major problem is that everybody else is wearing them too. Fortunately, to our very timely rescue comes Linda Farrow, an über-cool eyewear designer back in the ‘70s, whose label was resurrected by son Simon after he found a stash of her old shades in storage. (If only my mother had something so cool under our house!)
There are now several ranges available – exclusively at reVOLVER – including collaborations with designers including Matthew Williamson, Raf Simons and Giles Deacon, along with the very special Luxe and Vintage lines. The Luxe glasses are especially amazing – made from titanium with 24 carat gold plating, these are definitely not your average sunnies. Plus they come in a lizard skin presentation box that is as nice as any jewellery box you’ll ever find… all the more reason to invest!
For the chicas, Matthew Williamson’s oversized pink-rimmed frames are our hot tip, and for chicos it’s all about Raf Simons’ striped semi translucent Aviators. New for 2009 is a Luxe range for the little ones as well (for the very luckiest of Ibiza kids mind you) so Mum, Dad and the whole brood can sport matching pairs – now that’s what we call accessorising.
Linda Farrow – one shady lady you shouldn’t steer clear of.
