London calling… Jean-Pierre Braganza

Well, opening party season has started in Ibiza, and the beautiful people have been coming out of the woodwork – some sporting tans from three month holidays in the Bahamas, some looking more pale and interesting than ever before… We spent a mere six weeks away, returning to deal with deliveries of fabulous clothes – definitely not something to be left on the doorstep or signed for by your neighbours. Needless to say, there are many new and exciting things for 2010.

The label that excites me most this year is Jean-Pierre Braganza. You don’t get a much more continental European name than that, but Braganza was actually born in London and moved to Canada as an infant. However they don’t call it the Land of the Bland for nothing – Braganza himself declared it a ‘fashion vacuum’ and after getting a degree in Fine Art, couldn’t get back to Europe quickly enough.

Once back in London, Braganza studied at Central St Martins where he skipped the normal entrance procedures and was accepted into its second year due to his exceptional talent. Upon graduating he worked for Roland Mouret, where he learnt the art of tailoring and the female form and in 2008, Karl Lagerfeld selected him for the industry’s Protégé Project – there isn’t much higher accolade than that.

His collections today are dramatic and body conscious and certainly not for shy wallflowers. Fortunately we don’t see many of those in Ibiza! This season’s collection is called ‘Psychadelactica’ and features colourful sci-fi (a self confessed obsession of Braganza), dark gothic prints and a gorgeous hot pink dress that was worn by Cheryl Cole on the X-Factor.

The pieces that seem literally made for hot summer days and nights in Ibiza include a stunning black and white sheer kaftan called the Dandelion - perfect for throwing on over a bikini (with some heels of course) and dancing the evening away at Blue Marlin. There are also some tiny silk shorts but unless you have legs like one of the dancers at Amnesia then (sob!) look away now.

So, welcome back Jean-Pierre Braganza and your beautiful designs. We hope (in the footsteps of Richie Hawtin before you) that the longer you are away from Canada the faster your caree! If you’re searching for something extra special for the slew of upcoming opening parties scheduled in the diary/Blackberry/iPhone, reVOLVER currently has a limited selection of SS10 pieces in store now.

P.S. Apologies if I have offended any Canadian readers out there… just couldn’t resist!
