If you think the name Daniele Alessandrini sounds familiar, then chances are you’ve spent more than one lazy Sunday afternoon at Cala Jondal beach bar Blue Marlin. Alessandrini have designed the fashion-forward bar’s staff uniforms, so either you’ve been checking out the cute barmen under the guise of listening to Paco Fernandez, or waiting in the bar queue a long time (surely not the latter since table and sunbed service is totally du jour). Then again, it could just be that you know your fashion – the designer menswear label has a well-deserved cult following, not only in its native Italy but also around the world.
We don’t know if the man actually exists or not (we like to imagine him as tall, bronzed, muscular and gorgeous anyway!) but the label’s designs ooze that fantastic quality and style the Italians are renowned for. Fabrics of the finest quality (made In Italy of course), superb attention to detail such as double buttons, top stitching, removable cuffs and collars in contrasting prints and fabrics. These types of fantastic details are usually only found on super high-end brands (with super high-end prices) but fortunately this is one label accessible enough for those of us who don’t have a super yacht moored in the Cala Jondal bay. Yet!
DA is the main collection and Homme is the (ever-so-slighly sexier) second line. A predominant feature in both collections is the shirting – casual enough for lunch at your favourite Ibiza beach restaurant and yet sexy enough to dance the night away later on. Our favourite item from this season’s collection comes all scrunched up in a box (a bit like most of us pack our holiday suitcases) – a long sleeved fitted shirt with a dark blue floral print and white cuffs. Joy of joys – there’s no need to iron it as it’s been designed especially to look that way, unlike the rest of your holiday wardrobe, which by the time your suitcase has been thrown around by an over-zealous baggage handler, is creased and crinkled in all the wrong places.
Alessandrini also do a great line in accessories (belts, ties and more) but for your Ibiza holiday we think the only accessories you’ll need are a gorgeous giril on your arm and one of Blue Marlin’s famous cocktails in your hand!
