Last week I had to pop over to Barcelona for a fashion-related reVOLVER meeting, and as I was rushing to get to the taxi stand on my way to the airport, I was stopped in my tracks by the window display at the new (Spanish underwear chain store) Yamamay store on Isidoro Macabich, aka, the taxi street for those who don’t know Ibiza via its odd street names!
This particular window caught my eye because it didn’t have 2010’s version of Eva Herzigova in bra and knickers. It was actually a man – with a mighty fit torso at that. Once I managed to remove my eyes from the picture I realised it was none other than French DJ and producer Bob Sinclar – up until now, I certainly didn’t know he looked like THAT!
Heart flutters aside, I arrived in Barcelona to be greeted by the same enormous advertisement in the airport. Was the universe trying to tell me something? It prompted some quick Googling to find out more!
It turns out Bob Sinclar (there’s no ‘i’ people, though it is pronounced Sinclair!) is not even his real name. The name comes from a character in French spy movie ‘Le Magnifique’ – his real name is actually Christophe Le Friant. I’m glad it has a slightly mysterious source – otherwise Bob is a bit of a strange choice for a DJ name if you ask me!
Obviously Monsieur Sinclar has been around for years, has had loads of huge dance floor hits – I Feel For You, World, Hold On and Love Generation automatically spring to mind though old school fanatics will be quick to reference earlier classics like Ultimate Funk and the Jane Fonda sampling Gym Tonic. He’s out here every summer making regular appearances at Pacha’s Defected night, and as you may have read in Miss W’s review last month, at Café Mambo for their legendary pre-parties.
After scouring the internet – all in the name of fashion research – for a little longer, I quickly discovered it’s quite difficult to write more about Bob in a fashion blog. After all, there’s only so far I can go without any clothes to write about! Insert gratuitous behind the scenes video of the aforementioned torso… erm, I mean Yamamay underwear range here.
Speaking of fashion and DJs (we were… weren’t we?), this gives me an excuse to switch to another Pacha DJ and yet another favourite of the ladies (Miss W again). Luciano was White’s featured DJ last month, and I was pleased to see that the Bolongaro Trevor hoodie he was wearing in the photo, taken at the 2010 DJ awards, is from reVOLVER! In fact (and yes I’m showing off), he’s come to us for outfits three years in a row… obviously he has as good taste in clothes as he does in music.
Anyway, they say nobody likes a show-off so it’s time to go. There’s a taxi (rank) waiting…
