‘I love Ibiza because it’s so laidback on one side and so crazy on the other,’ says Berlin-born, Ibiza-based fashion photographer Maria Simon. ‘In the summer you get that feeling of living in an inspiring city, then in winter you can get very creative and just enjoy the calm.’
‘It’s easy to be creative on this island because it’s just so beautiful!’ Maria says of her choice to make Ibiza her permanent home (and work) base. ‘My clients are in holiday moods, so it’s so much more chilled when negotiating. Actually, Ibiza gives me a lot more inspiration than a big city does. If I get tired of being here, I go to Berlin or London and get my city vibe on but then I am always happy to come back. A big city takes a lot of energy; here when you are working very hard in the summer it takes energy too, but you can relax and recharge in nature – especially in the sea.’
‘I don’t really have a secret place, or favourite place – every year I discover something new in Ibiza. At the moment, my favourite thing to do (when I have a spare moment) is go to the very end of Salinas beach to read a book. At this time of year I have the beach almost to myself.’
