It has been awsome!

Surely Ushuaia is different than DC10.. but has thrown some good parties this year.

Hope to see more good beach parties next year... and hope to see DC10 again too!

Miss W, I too think that Ushuaia is a great place to hang out and I went there a couple of times this year and I love it.

http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item/heard-in-ibiza/

But I have to say that despite Ushuaia offering a lot of nice places to hang out, sun lounges, and an older and more sophisticated Ibiza crowd, it's not the "new DC10" as many people are muttering.

Its soundsystem is too quiet, and its dancefloor is not really suited to a full on party - it's a walkway to the beach beyond, and surrounded by roped off VIP areas (VIP areas create division, and undermine one of dance music's most important values: inclusion).

Despite many people wanting to let loose, it's not really possible to build up any sort of momentum on the dancefloor from a DJ point of view, because many of the intricacies and deck flourishes that Luciano and co. are capable of providing are lost in the DB cutoff.

DC10 was a spiritual experience, a place where dancers could join in emphatic union to one single rhythm, thereby elevating themselves to another level, and you need only look at the videos on YouTube of the entire dancefloor sitting down before jumping up together when the beat drops, to see how magical that club was.

If Ushuaia wishes to take the crown from DC10 as the most authentic Ibiza dance music experience, it needs more than just Luciano and nice decor. Its owners need to completely redo the soundsystem, either by paying off the police and installing more powerful speakers (unlikely), or by installing loads of tiny little speakers around the dancefloor so that you're never more than a few inches away from the music (I've seen it done before in Barcelona as a way to combat sound limits, and it works ok).

That's not to say that Ushuaia isn't a great spot for Ibiza, it is, but it is nowhere near DC10. And Ibiza will not be the same if DC10 is forced off the island.
