We loved: Being out on the Nassau terrace once again – a sure sign summer has arrived.

In my humble opinion, the annual Eivissa Medieval Festival should be at the top of every ‘must-visit’ festival list in Europe… and judging by the sheer volume of people traipsing up and down the drawbridge to Ibiza’s own UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site Dalt Vila last weekend, it seems I’m not alone! If you weren’t among the merrymakers this year, let me give you 12 very good reasons why you should put the second weekend in May 2013 in your diary right now!

1. It’s totally free! For four gorgeous spring days and nights, the festival is open to one and all, not to mention fun for all ages (take my tip and visit multiple times, with different aged friends and family – it’s a very different experience with a five year old to a group of 20-something chicas!). You can stroll the cobbled streets of Dalt Vila, while watching street entertainment and listening to live music – very wallet friendly when you compare it to a night out in a club’s VIP section!

2. Where else do you get to hang out in a castle and drink beer (I mean ale!), wine (I mean mead!) and Medieval mojitos all day and night? Maybe that’s what Kate and Wills get up to…

3. You come home with a bagful of trinkets you didn’t know you couldn’t live without until now! I scored a pretty little ceramic toucan whistle, a bunch of rose-scented wooden roses, a crystal angel meant to protect me from harm and a hand puppet with a foam mouse attached. Amazing.

4. Meat, glorious meat. It’s pretty clear by the multitude of open grills at the festival that carnivores ruled the earth in medieval times. I needed to visit twice a day over the course of the weekend to sample the fine fayre on offer – think five-hour slow roasted pork (with perfect crackling!), barbequed pork ribs, beef kebabs, all different varieties of chorizo and sausage, chicken skewers drowned in antique mustard, mmmm and so much more. Oh never yee mind, yee fussy vegetarians – there’s also plenty of falafel, couscous and calamari to go round.

5. Sipping bottomless tea in Moroccan tents with a view across to Formentera. Sure, I know it’s just fresh mint and copious amounts of sugar, but there’s something about being served from those beautiful silver teapots while sitting at teensy tiny tables that makes it taste SO MUCH BETTER than anything you’d have at home. And bonus, you get to keep the pretty little cups! Obvs I went back four times to get a matching set.

6. Good old fashioned, stinky cheese. Big, huge, enormous chunks of the smelliest, tastiest queso I have ever eaten! From pesto flavoured through to matured goat’s cheese and extra sharp parmesan, the wooden blocks with bite-sized samples needed constant refilling every time I walked past. Which was often. And on purpose.

7. You feel like an extra in Harry Potter. Speaking of which, ever wonder what happened to Hedwig after the final Harry Potter flick? I think I know – one particular stall featured an exhibition of beautiful birds, including many varieties of owls and I am CERTAIN she made eye contact with me. With her head on a 360 degree angle and all!

8. Seeing kids decked out in mini-medieval garb. Beyond cute. Mini knights, princesses and warriors were all spotted running around the dedicated kids area, where the games really were prehistoric – imagine, having to use your brain to build with blocks, or pick up wooden fish using blocks. What surprised me most was how willing kids were to ditch the iPads and actually have a go.

9. Sweets! Chocoloate! Ice cream! The sweet smell of waffles being made, crepes being created and the beauty of seeing entire carts filled with multi-coloured jelly sweets was enough to give me a sugar rush without even indulging. But I did of course… just to make sure it was safe enough for everyone else to eat.

10. Seeing huge bulls, donkeys, horses, geese and more being herded through Dalt Vila is surreal indeed. Even moreso was the ferret we spotted, and the dog dressed with a medieval ruffled wreath around its neck!

11. You really can learn something. About history, or so I’m told. Because to be honest, I was so busy eating and drinking, the only lesson I learned was to wear baggy trousers! But really, it’s an educational festival, with loads of historical artifacts on display… You’ll spot them on your way to the food court!

12. You can stop off at Solis Lucrum when you can’t walk anymore! Those beautiful antique armchairs on display outside were the perfect mid-Medieval resting point, ideal for people watching, wine sipping and even a spot of shopping in the coincidentally on-theme concept store.

It’s full steam ahead for Ibiza health and fitness club M Wellness this week, as they move into their all-new, shiny, glossy, five star location – the Revival Wellness Club at Aguas de Ibiza. The outstanding facilities (including a snazzy spa by Clarins, rooftop yoga studio and much more) provide the perfect complement to the passion and experience of the M Wellness team – all of whom will still be on hand to give you dedicated service. Just one minute away from the previous location, the new venue has extended opening hours – Monday to Friday from 8am until 10pm; Saturdays form 10am until 10pm and Sundays form 11am until 8pm.

Beach parties are back! Ever-popular and ultra-glamorous mobile party Rewind sets up camp at Ushuaïa Beach Club from 2pm this Sunday to celebrate the re-opening of the seaside hotspot. Food & drink: It was easy to follow our noses to the luxe beach barbeque… but not without stopping off at the bar for mango daiquiris and mojitos on the way.

Music: A live Flamenco fusion performance by Ibossim, an awesome DJ set from Nightmares on Wax main man DJ E.A.S.E. and a party-starting collective of beats from Antz as the moon rose from the sea.

We loved: The full moon rising of course! As the golden circle was mirrored in the sea, beaming towards Amante, it felt like a reverse Ibiza sunset kind of moment – a collective tear in the crowds’ eyes and some emotional hugging as it rose. Then, it was back to the business of partying!

1. We didn’t actually have to worry about fitting into a bikini or having the perfect all-over tan – yet! I mean, it’s a summer vibe, but it’s not yet summer and them there hills in San Rafael get a bit chilly after dark! Layering is still the key to dressing for an Ibiza party at this time of year… scarves and jackets at the ready!

2. I love the secret society vibe of the Rewind After Tea parties. Viral videos, luxe printed invitations handed out at Ibiza’s coolest bars and a word of mouth rep ensure a hand-picked, intimate (and interesting!) group of people in attendance.

3. There was real, live magic happening! For once, I’m not talking about the atmosphere… I’m talking about the amazing magician who wowed me three times in a row. These were some tricks you don’t see every day! Some say sleight of hand, I say magic happens…

4. Wearing a tiara was not only acceptable, it was de rigueur (excuse my French!). Well, it was Queen’s Day after all.

5. The oh-so-easy-to-eat food on a stick. I mean easy in two ways – first, that it was delicious and easy to scoff and second, the fact it was on a stick made it easy to manage one’s champagne while eating! Chicken, chorizo, prawns, salmon and tuna… the way poolside barbeques should be.

6. Music by Paola Poletto and Francisco Allendes taking the party to the next level. Just as I was about to make an early exit (early deadlines looming) after darkness fell, the shift in musical styles was enough to make me detour back to the bar… Deadlines? What deadlines?

7. Vocalist Mimi Barber’s revolving wardrobe! It seemed every time I turned around, the gorgeous singer had changed her attire! I’m sure I counted at least four costume changes, though the tiara remained firmly in place.

8. The colourful crystal nuggets used for food and drinks tokens. Much easier to keep track of than little pieces of paper, and so pretty you almost wouldn’t have cared if you didn’t use them all and they came home in your pocket. I said almost – champagne anyone?
