January in Ibiza is renowned for being a blissfully quiet month in Ibiza. With New Year’s resolutions of detoxing and getting fit in full effect for many people, the party circuit slows down and Ibiza’s socialites go into a hibernation of sorts. But there’s always an exception that lures us out of our social slumber… and tonight, it was the birthday party of Pacha’s premier party DJ, Sarah Main.

Held in the slick, suave and sassy new Ibiza town restaurant La Cava – the latest addition to Café Mambo owner Javier Anadón’s successful stable of businesses – the idea was an informal get together, some tasty tapas and celebratory drinks. Throw in a set of decks and some music, and you’ve got yourself a mid-week Ibiza knees up, that everyone still on the island was clamouring to attend. While people all around the globe were busy fighting the high-street hordes in search of the perfect last-minute gifts, dealing with raging hangovers in order to have Christmas dinner with the in-laws and having to dress to deal with temps either in the minuses (or reaching 40 for those in the southern hemisphere), Miss W here had an epiphany. Yes, another one.

November in Ibiza heralded a spectacular Indian summer for those lucky enough to be on the white isle – we’re talking temps in the high 20s, swimming, sunbathing, long lunches on the beach, the lot! But once the sun sinks down behind those green tipped mountains, the temperature also drops, meaning those wanting to celebrate in true Ibiza style need to seek out all-new places to party. You’d probably never know it just by looking at me, but Miss W’s favourite occasion has always been Halloween. While I didn’t grow up anywhere that trick or treating took place, I always envied those American kids and as I got older, aspired to become somewhat of a scream queen. When I arrived in Ibiza, I was thrilled of course to realise that Halloween was a Major Event on the social calendar, one that required maximum effort and military like planning precision…

Another year, another DJ awards ceremony. Another awards ceremony, another wardrobe crisis. Another wardrobe crisis, another reason to hit the sales… But oops, I digress! Back to the business of the DJ awards…

As with previous years, tonight’s proceedings began with a cocktail party for nominees and press at Ocean Drive Hotel, where the mojitos were free-flowing and the music came from a quirky DJ set-up in a funky little Red Bull-mobile. Then was time to hotfoot it down the road – just a hop, skip and a shimmy down the red carpet – to the hallowed halls of Pacha, where the ceremony itself took place.
